Arquitecto estadounidense. Estudió en la Universidad de Princeton y en la Academia americana en Roma. Luego de trabajar con
Eero Saarinen y
Louis Kahn, formó una sociedad con su esposa, Denise Scott Brown, y con John Rauch. Su filosofía, expuesta en los influyentes libros
Complejidad y contradicción en la arquitectura (
1966) y
Aprendiendo de Las Vegas (
1972), hace un llamado a la franqueza frente a las múltiples influencias de la tradición histórica, la arquitectura comercial común y el
pop art. Generó un impacto tan profundo en los arquitectos jóvenes que comenzaban a encontrar restricciones y limitaciones similares en la estética del
modernismo, que se convirtió en el decano informal del
posmodernismo en arquitectura. Sus edificios a menudo muestran un humor irónico. Entre sus encargos importantes figuran los edificios para las universidades de Princeton y Pensilvania, el Museo de arte de Seattle (
1985–91) y el Sainsbury Wing de la Galería Nacional de Londres (
1986–91). Obtuvo el Premio Pritzker de Arquitectura en 1991.
